CYMS Cougars' unbeaten record is in danger after Macquarie batted out day one and finished their innings at 8-229 at Lady Cutler 4.
Brenton Morgan top-scored with 51 for the Blues while there were also contributions from Bharath Ramakrishnappa (37) and Luke Patis (31 not out) in the club day match.
CYMS' skipper Daryl Thompson may be rethinking his choice after winning the toss and bowling but that decision seemed like the perfect one when Brian Carroll bowled Tom Peacocke on just the third ball of the match.
Morgan combined with Brant Mann to add 50 for the next wicket while every other batsmen in the Blues line-up made double figures to keep the score ticking over.
Patis and Matt Taylor added a valuable 46 at the end of the innings to put the Blues in the driving seat leading into next week.
Daryl and Josh Thompson took two wickets each while Brian Carroll, Troy Tracey, Warren Dodd Sr and Will Graham each claimed one.
