Chamber President Andrew Toole said the extension would give everyone the opportunity to finalise their gifts.
"It's a good thing. It lets people do their Christmas shopping outside of work hours," Mr Toole said.
"Dubbo is probably not going to be affected as much. We don't have as much shift work as some mining towns."
The announcement is most likely to be embraced by chain stores with greater resources but Mr Toole said he didn't believe it would lead to a decrease in shoppers to smaller stores.
"In the big scheme of things I don't think it will impact [smaller stores]. Your boutique businesses always seem to have a pretty loyal following."
Target Dubbo has already announced extended trading hours in the lead up to the holiday.
"Everyone from mums and dads, to shift workers, to night owls, will appreciate the convenience of being able to shop right across the day," store manager Cherie Fuller said.
Minister for Planning Pru Goward said the choice to extend operating hours was taking the stress out of Christmas shopping, while giving retailers a boost.
NSW consumers are expected to spend a total of $10.6 billion this year on Christmas based on figures from the Australian National Retailers Association.
