NATIONAL lightweight champion Robert 'Gummy' Toomey is expecting a bumper crowd at the Garden Hotel next Friday night as he hosts a local amateur fight night.
Toomey predicted close to 16 fights to be staged on the night with his Pound 4 Pound providing the bulk of the boxers on show.
Local state title holder Ayla Barker will defend her NSW welterweight belt while there will also be a NSW cruiserweight title fight and a state middleweight title bout.
"There's a lot of local fighters having their first fight and they've been training for six months so they're really keen," Toomey said.
"I was going to cancel it and do it next year because it's getting a bit close to Christmas but they're all so keen so I couldn't say no."
The likes of newcomers Will Clow, Parker Watson, James Butcher and Hayden Wood will all step into the ring, as will Stephen Wilson, Briarne Luckie and Barker.
Shane Konz will also shape up while some of his Westside Rabbitohs teammates are also expected to strap up the gloves as part of their pre-season training.
Barker's will be one of the main events of the night after she produced a hugely impressive display at Nyngan last month to defeat Newcastle's Jess Batty to claim the NSW amateur title in the 63kg division.
Graham Wallace trains Barker and her win that night led him to describe her as one of the most motivated fighters he has worked with.
Toomey has been full of praise for Wallace with the veteran trainer doing most of the preparation in the lead up to Friday's fight night.
"I wouldn't be able to do it all so Graham Wallace has been helping and he trains most of them, he's been really great," he said.
"I'm really keen to see them in the ring now, they train every day so it will be good to see how they go."
Toomey was also hopeful there would be a big turnout at the Garden Hotel with the chance to see some of the most talented local boxers as well as rising up-and-comers.
"Hopefully everyone's families and friends are home now for Christmas and we can get a crowd of 450-500 people," he said.
Pre-sale tickets are available at the Garden Hotel for $20 while they can be bought for $30.
