But after rekindling her love affair with the paintbrush 15 month ago, the Dubbo mother-of-five is set to launch her first exhibition tonight at the Dubbo Fire Station Arts Centre.
Behind the Seen is not only Kyah's first local exhibition, but also her first one riding solo.
After studying fine arts, followed with a teaching qualification, Kyah said she had completely put away the idea of painting after her first child was born.
"It's been an unbelievable year," she said.
The whirlwind ride first began for Kyah in August this year when she was invited to exhibit with Catherine Stewart in the Moree Gallery.
Since then, her works have made their way to Wellington, Orange, Wagga Wagga and Narromine.
But, her biggest achievement thus far would have to be receiving the People's Choice Award at the 2014 CamART exhibition in Melbourne, where she also sold four out of her five works on display.
Behind the Seen showcases Kyah's take on rural livestock with a modern twist.
The ride does not end for Kyah after this exhibition, with plenty more ideas up her sleeve.
"I had only ever thought of this as a hobby," she said.
"I had never even drawn a cow before this all started, but now it's all suddenly steamrolled."
Behind the Seen will officially open tonight at the Dubbo Fire Station Arts Centre from 6pm to 8pm.
