Dubbo City Councillor Allan Smith recently called on the electricity provider to pick up its "game".
"They say they have a maintenance program," he said
"I defy anyone to drive around and not find a large number of streetlights out."
Cr Smith raised the issue during consideration of a request from Essential Energy to acquire an easement in Eastridge.
The long-time civic leader and former mayor said he would continually raise the matter until the provider "fix(es) our streetlights".
Essential Energy northern regional manager Ben Williams said the network business had reports of just a small percentage of streetlights not working and that its average repair time was faster than the requirement.
"Essential Energy maintains around 5000 streetlights in the Dubbo City Council area and currently has reports of 11 streetlights that aren't operating correctly," he said.
"A full patrol of streetlights in Dubbo was undertaken by Essential Energy in July to identify any faults before work began to progressively repair them.
"The average time taken to repair a reported faulty streetlight in Essential Energy's network area is 3.2 days - well within the eight-day requirement of the NSW Public Lighting Code."
He encouraged residents to report streetlight faults to Essential Energy by ringing 13 23 91 or by visiting www.essentialenergy.com.au to ensure faults were fixed as quickly as possible.
He also said more work was scheduled to take place within months.
"As part of its public lighting maintenance program, Essential Energy will bulk replace lamps and clean lenses in all standard street lighting throughout Dubbo in January next year," he said.
