Baker, in his fourth season of training in his own right, had established himself by quickly rising through the ranks and had a profile that was attracting new clients, but it has not been smooth sailing for the past six months.

He is not one to make excuses, however, but he was one the worst affected by a virus that swept through stables at the start of the season.

"It is always tough and always a challenge in Sydney and you need things going right for you," Baker said. "We had a couple of horses that reached their mark [level] and it was a pretty quiet time, which was frustrating for all of us.

"Things have picked up now and the horses are running well and we are getting the results."

In the past six weeks, Baker has had 11 of his 13 winners since August as his stable starts to operate at full capacity again.

There have been four metropolitan winners and another eight placings from his past 26 runners in the city, including victories to Off The Rails and One More, and both will front up at Rosehill, in the third and seventh races respectively, on Saturday.

Baker said Off The Rails, named after the popular Sky channel show, had been a bonus for his stable in lifting its profile. A share in the horse was given away on the show, leading to the name.

"The guys have had me on the show a couple of times and they have taken a share in the horse, in a sense," Baker said. "They are not in the horse at all but they follow it and mention him. It has been good for myself and Rob Woods' Topline Thoroughbreds.

"Off The Rails probably has profile beyond his form at the moment, but he is starting to show what he can do on the track."

Off The Rails returned a winner on Melbourne Cup day at Randwick, beating Dublin Lass, which has won twice since. He was then one of the many disadvantaged on the Kensington track a fortnight ago when got back in the field and ran on into third.

"The Randwick win was very good and I thought he got to the line well last time on a track that was against him," Baker said. "He has come on since that run and the soft track won't worry him."

One More probably needs it dry to show his best but he has been one of the horses to lead the stable's resurgence. He has had five runs this campaign, which started at Bathurst, without missing a place and has included wins at Kembla Grange and Canterbury last start.

"He is up a bit in grade and although he has won on a wet track, he needs firmer footing," Baker said.  "Burbero [eighth race] is similar, he needs a good track and he can be hard to catch."

Baker has made a name with two-year-olds in recent years but has struggled to have juvenile runners this season.

"I just haven't had the right sort of horses, but I am hoping to have a couple in the Inglis race next week," he said. "I have a few that are just about ready to go."
