Trained at Bathurst by Dean Mirfin, the seven-year-old resumed from an 18-week spell with a narrow victory over 1200m at Bathurst on October 31, before backing that up with a win over 1400m at Orange just eight days ago.
That form was enough for Racing NSW handicappers to slug Dashexpress with 60kg for today's event, however Mirfin has offset that by using the 4kg claim of apprentice rider Rachel Hunt.
The race will be the feature event on the Cowra club's six-race TAB program, and Dashexpress will be up against just seven rivals.
Among them will be Tyson's Tiger, trained at Parkes by Ricky Watt.
After winning at Dubbo on November 1, Watt elected to test the six-year-old at city level last time out, when he finished eighth, beaten 5.1 lengths, behind Wine 'N' Dine at Warwick Farm.
Later in the program another runner aiming for a winning hat-trick will be Burrenjunction Spy, which will have to overcome a wide barrier in the Cowra Cup January 11 Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200m).
The Max Crockett-trained mare has scored dominant wins at Mudgee and Wellington at her past two starts, and leading jockey Greg Ryan will again be in the saddle today.
Ryan will need to be at his best though, as Burrenjunction Spy has drawn barrier 14 in the field of 14 plus four emergencies, however if the emergencies don't get a start she will start from gate 11.
Among the hardest to beat for Burrenjunction Spy will be the Brett Thompson-trained Budgee Boy, which was quite consistent last preparation, and Mahonga from the Graham Spackman stable at Goulburn.
The gelding has won only one race however that was a dominant maiden win at Canberra first up last preparation and he resumes from a spell again today.
The first event at Cowra will be run at 2.23pm with the last set down for 5.30pm.
