Dubbo Local Court heard the Carissa Holmes was searched when she went to the jail on August 16. The 30-year-old produced a small yellow balloon from her jacket pocket and admitted it was "Bupe", the street name for Buprenorphine.
The restricted prescription drug is used to treat severe pain and help people withdraw from heroin and methadone.
A solicitor from the Aboriginal Legal Service asked for a good behaviour bond.
"There was no planning," the solicitor said.
"She was contacted by a woman she didn't know and asked to take the substance into the jail."
Magistrate Eckhold said Holmes was on a dangerous path.
"Questions arise about who you choose to associate with," the magistrate said.
"Jail is a controlled environment and the drug is highly restricted.
"You have had a hard life and it is a fine thing that you haven't got criminal convictions. You have only been brought before court on traffic matters."
Holmes was told to stay out of trouble.
"If you breach the bond you will be called up to be re-sentenced," Magistrate Eckhold said.
