THE Make A Wish Foundation has benefited to the tune of $12,300 after the inaugural EMS Tri For Charity event held at Dubbo on Saturday.
A total of 47 teams of three competitors lined up on the day, taking part in the 550m swim, 18km ride and 9km run, with the money being used by the foundation to arrange experiences for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
With a total of 140 competitors, Murray Robertson (Atlex Stockyards) was first out of the water in 7 minutes, 23 seconds with a clear break of 19 seconds to a bunch led by promising junior Lachlan Sinclair (Richardson and Sinclair), Josh Allen (CBA Winners) and another junior Matthew Marks(Atlex Stockyards 3).
Fifth out of the water was a former schoolgirl champion Catherine Fuller (Robinson and Fuller Homes) on 8 minutes 18 seconds, showing she was still very competitive.
After running up the Ollie Robbins boat ramp to the bike transition Chris Couper (Atlex Stockyards 1) rode with a finishing time of 29 minutes 48 seconds.
The quickest rider of the day was the very experienced time trialler and ironman competitor Simon Friend (GB Friend's) with a time of 27 minutes 12 seconds, with only eight seconds separating Matt Fuller (CBA Winners) and Scott Stevenson (Specialized Electrical 1) on 28:01 and 28:09 respectively.
They were followed in by two other cycling specialists, Dave Gerrish (Specialized Electrical 3) on 29:05 and Mark Fuller (Robinson and Fuller Homes) with a time of 29:24.
Rounding out the final run leg, Jane Fardell (GB Friends) hit the front and was never headed.
The current fourth-ranked marathoner in Australia meant business, finishing the run in 14 minutes 31 seconds from the fastest runner of the day, Len Darlington (Specialized Electrical 1) in 14:03.
The third fastest runner was Murray Robertson (Atlex Stockyards) in 14:54.
So, after all three legs of the triathlon were completed, GB Friends were first in an overall time of 50 minutes 38 minutes followed by Specialized Electrical 1 in 51:26 and Atlex Sockyards 1 in 52:05.
In total, nine teams finished the long course in less than hour for a high-quality event.
The winner of the short course 550-metre swim, 9km ride and 2km run was the Atlex Stockyards team of Matthew Marks, Jody Marks and Joseph Marks, followed by Divas In Distress with Megan Dixon, Paige Williams and Jodie Barber.
The top fundraisers were Stevensons Hydraulics with a narrow win over Bosweb Systems with both teams raising in excess of $2,300.
The platinum and naming rights sponsor EMS was proudly supported by three gold sponsors with Stevenson Hydraulics, Harvey Norman Electrical and Specialized Electrical and four silver sponsors, Christies Accountants and Advisors, MAAS Group, Atlex Stockyards and Bosweb Systems.
The EMS Tri for Charity team triathlon will become an annual event with a perpetual shield handed to the winners, GB Friends.
The next Dubbo Triathlon Club race is on December 7 in the afternoon and sponsored by St George Bank.
Registrations will start at 2.30pm at Ollie Robbins Oval near the boat ramp.
