As Australia waits anxiously for cricketer Phil Hughes to show signs of consciousness, a Top Gear presenter who suffered a life-threatening head injury eight years ago has spoken out about the challenges of recovery.
Richard Hammond received traumatic head injuries during a high-speed car crash while filming the TV show in 2006.
This week he told a British radio magazine the accident had plunged him into several years of "depression, obsession, compulsion and paranoia".
Karl Stefanovic's 'sexism suit' raises $6500 for White Ribbon campaign -
The nation's most famous suit has sold on eBay, fetching a handsome $6500 for White Ribbon, the charity that campaigns to end violence against women.
Karl Stefanovic, co-presenter of the Nine Network'sToday program, wore the blue suit for 12 months, making a not-so-subtle point about the unfair scrutiny to which his female colleagues are subjected.

8:30am: Drag strip gets the green light with one condition
A $2 million drag strip proposed for land north of Dubbo has received a green light despite opposition from neighbours.
An offer to sell land for the facility to Dubbo City Car Club at a market price of $72,050 also gained approval, but with an extra condition relating to bushfire assessment requirements.
Residents with concerns about traffic, noise and bushfire risk attended Dubbo City Council's ordinary meeting on Monday and repeated calls for more conditions to be imposed "for the safety of all". Read more here.

DUBBO will play host to one of the biggest rugby league carnivals in Australia next year with the announcement the 2015 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout will be played here next October.
After three successive tournaments at Raymond Terrace the action will come to Caltex Park after the Walgett Aboriginal Connection (WAC) won this year's event and were awarded hosting rights. Read more here.
INDOOR CRICKET: Young cricket players will soon be able to relish seeing their heroes in action while also being given the opportunity to strive for national selection.
Junior cricket teams from across the state are being invited by Indoor Cricket NSW to nominate players to represent their region in Round one of the Mustang Cricket 2015 Indoor Conference Series on January 9 in the Sydney region. Read more here.
CRICKET: The best of Dubbo's junior cricketers again showcased the talent of the future last weekend in another round of representative action.
The Dubbo under-14s Blue and White sides were both victorious, as was the under-12s Blue side while the under-12s White team just fell short against Condobolin. Read more here.
LAWN BOWLS: After another hugely successful year on the rinks, the Dubbo City Bowling Club hosted their presentation night last Saturday.
It was a great chance for all the club's members to get together and celebrate the results the club has had. There was a big turn out with everyone enjoying the presentation and the night out. Christmas message: Tony Abbott prepares to knock the 'barnacles off the ship' -
Tony Abbott has asked nervous government MPs to maintain internal discipline in the face of the ABC funding controversy and bad polling, reassuring them he will knock "one or two barnacles off the ship" before Christmas.
The Prime Minister's comments touched off speculation that he is shaping to abandon one or more of his unpopular budget measures concluding there is no chance of passing them through the Senate and that the government has lost enough skin trying to do so until now. Read more here.
Two scuba divers rescued during night dive off Clovelly-
Two scuba divers have been rescued by off-duty lifeguards when they became disoriented during a night dive off Clovelly.
The divers, a 30-year-old woman from Chippendale and a 34-year-old man from Holsworthy, began screaming for help just after 9pm on Tuesday when they washed up against rocks about 100 metres off Clovelly Beach.
Electricity disconnections in NSW double in five years, says the Australian Energy Regulator -
Twice as many NSW families have had their power disconnected in the past financial year compared with five years ago, the Australian Energy Regulator has revealed.
Nearly 33,000 households across the state lost their power supply in 2013-14 due to unpaid bills as energy costs escalated, the AER's second annual report shows.
Origin, Australia's largest energy retailer, disconnected one in every 100 of their customers in the past financial year – double the previous year's rate.

South Australian batsman Phillip Hughes is in an induced coma in hospital after being struck on the head by a bouncer during the Sheffield Shield clash at the SCG on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Ambulance Service of NSW said paramedics were called to Moore Park at 2.37pm, and Hughes was taken to St Vincents Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition.
Hughes was attempting a pull shot from a delivery by Sean Abbott when he was struck. After the blow, Hughes stood for some time while looking at his feet and then crashed face-first onto the pitch. The NSW players and umpires called for help immediately. Read more here.
White Ribbon is Australia’s only national, male-led campaign to end men’s violence against women. White Ribbon Day is today, November 25.
MT ISA: Car explodes after tyre spikes stop wanted man -
MOUNT Isa Police used tyre spikes to catch a wanted man travelling to the city from Cloncurry on Monday.
The vehicle burst into flames after it hit the spikes. The man escaped from the car and was not injured in the blaze.

Ice use among methamphetamine users more than doubled in three years, according to findings in a National Drug Strategy Household Survey published by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
The survey of 24,000 people in the second half of 2013 found Australians in remote areas were twice as likely to use methamphetamines as those in metropolitan areas. Read more here.
Four trips to Antarctica has given Dubbo carpenter Mark Gallagher a wealth of stories to share about life on "one of the last frontiers".
Employed to do general construction and maintenance of existing buildings, Mr Gallagher also came face-to-face with "staggering scenery and birdlife" not seen by many. Read more here.
