Kyle Dixon was found in the middle of the road on Hume Street in the early hours of October 1 suffering horrific cuts to his head and bruising to his face and body.
He was taken by ambulance to Dubbo Hospital and after leaving intensive care called the Daily Liberal to say he had been hit from behind by a vehicle that dragged him along the ground for 20 metres.
By his own admission Mr Dixon had been heavily intoxicated following a drinking session the night before, but the 22-year-old had no doubt it was a vehicle that struck him.
Dubbo Detective-Sergeant Mark Meredith said the footage showed a white utility near where Mr Dixon was found, captured by CCTV at 3.29am on Wednesday, October 1.
While the picture was small, it showed a vehicle in the area at the time of the incident, he said.
"The footage depicts a vehicle of interest, a white ute, and we are hoping the driver of that vehicle or anyone with knowledge about that vehicle or the incident can contact us, even if it is so we can rule the vehicle out of our inquiries," Detective Sergeant Meredith said.
He said detectives investigating the matter had painstakingly gone through hours of footage and evidence gathered at the scene.
At the time, Mr Dixon and his family appealed for any information that could help piece together what happened leading up to and after he was injured.
Mr Dixon's uncle Luke Nolan said the family was keen to get the word out in case anyone saw anything around Hume Street.
"Douglas Mawson (Road) is not far away and there are a lot of businesses there," Mr Nolan said.
"Maybe someone saw something, maybe they've seen someone with busted headlights or something.
"Whoever did this to him, I can only describe them as cowards. Who leaves someone on the road to die like this?"
Anyone who believed they had information that could help local detectives with their inquiries was asked to contact Dubbo Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
