That is an official rating from a Climate Council study, which was scathing about the rest of NSW.
Dubbo residents have installed more than 4000 solar energy systems, cut electricity grid use and, importantly, reduced those ever-increasing power bills.
The solar industry says the energy systems can pay for themselves in four or five years. When residents see the savings they spread the positives through the city by word-of-mouth.
So, people make a contribution, however small, to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
They make money by helping the health of the planet. It isn’t hard work – all you need is sunshine.
But, the state as a whole is way behind. NSW has the highest annual greenhouse gas emissions of any state or territory, mainly due to mining and burning of fossil fuels like coal.
It is considered responsible for 27.4 per cent of Australia national emissions. NSW has 32 per cent of the national population but only provides 21 per cent of the jobs in renewable energy.
Solar energy has shown itself a winner around the world. Dubbo people have made it work for themselves and the city.
Renewable energy systems, climate change, carbon emissions etc. have become ideological footballs for political parties and traditional energy industries.
While they create hot air and stymie progress, Dubbo people will shine on.
