The 32-year-old P-plater was found to have a blood alcohol reading of 0.108 when he was stopped by police in Fitzroy Street in the early hours of the morning.
A solicitor said Vonomateiratu was a Fijian national not entitled to Centrelink benefits.
He was working at the Nyngan solar plant to provide for his family.
"The offence occurred after he played in the rugby league grand final," the solicitor said.
"He is not an experienced drinker. The offence was a gross miscalculation."
Magistrate Andrew Eckhold said Vonomateiratu had pleaded guilty and completed a traffic offender education program.
Vonomateiratu was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.
