UnitingCare have combined with Target to run the Giving Box, which gives presents to the children of struggling local families.
8.45am: The federal government is coming under fire for heavy cuts to the ABC. Malcolm Turnbull had plenty of questions to answer during last night's Q&A.
8:35am: The first 40 lots of Macquarie View estate were officially opened yesterday, eight years after work began.
Developers say the estate has been designed with a community focus and will include a cycle track, 'green space' areas and NBN connectivity.
8.20am: Can you believe this? A female student at Newcastle University is being counselled after it was discovered she had been using university resources to broadcast a sex show from the uni's library.
Staff became aware of the issue in October and took steps to stop the woman.
It highlights a bigger issue with a surprising number of students turning to online sex outlets to to make ends meet. It is believed more than 150 women from Newcastle University are using an online website to find rich older men to fund their education.
8.10am: The push to get a permanent judge in Dubbo to deal with family law matters is continuing, with Parkes MP Mark Coulton taking the issue to Attorney-General George Brandis on behalf of the Orana Law Society.
Mr Coulton said he received representations from the OLS at the end of September and that he had written to the Attorney-General on its behalf.
The MP did not pre-empt the contents of a reply to his representations, saying he would wait and see what the Attorney-General's response was.
8am: A local family is putting out a desperate plea for help. Their beloved bird, Bazil, an Alexandrine parrot, escaped at 12.30pm on Sunday and the family is hoping someone may have seen him.
Anyone with information about Bazil's whereabouts was asked to contact Rachel Mills on 0413 687 671.

7.35am: China is dominating national headlines this morning, because of their president's address in Australian Parliament and the free trade agreement with Australia that looks set to go ahead.
*NATIONAL: China's President Xi Jinping has used his address to the Australian Parliament to send an emphatic message to this country and the wider world: trust us, and everyone's a winner.
*NATIONAL: Economists predict Australia's free trade agreement with China will boost local employment and lead to an increase in exports.
*SYDNEY: Police are investigating whether a woman was killed with a gardening tool after an argument with her husband in the front yard of their western Sydney home.

*DUBBO: The cricketing community is in mourning after the death of Tony Beauchamp. The 47-year-old suffered a heart attack while umpiring a junior cricket game on Saturday.
*WELLINGTON: Wellington Council faces some challenging options if the shire is to become "Fit for the Future".
*ORANA: There is a convincing scam going round via email telling people they have a speeding fine that needs to be paid. The email appears to come from the Office of State Revenue but is fake.
*ORANA: An inspector attached to the Western Region has been charged with alleged domestic assault charges and will face court early next year.
