Last week the Tigers produced one of the most dominant batting performances the Whitney Cup has seen in some time, when they piled on 5-414, leaving Souths with a monumental challenge to face today.
Skinner believes his side is a strong chance of an outright win today but said his side still has a job to do on the batsmen-friendly Lady Cutler 1 pitch.
"We're pretty confident but we're not just taking it for granted, I don't think they can chase it down but there's a few different plans we want to execute today," he said.
"We'll just take the first innings points and then see how we're looking after that but an outright win is one the cards when you've got 400 runs on the board."
With so much already against them, Souths come into today without two of their most experienced players, Tim Berry and Matt Finlay.
Both are capable of playing big innings and will be sorely missed but the Hornets do welcome back opening batsmen Asher Robins, who missed last week because of under-19s Western Zone duties.
Skinner said Souths' opening duo of Robins and Will Wolter will be the two big wickets to take but with so many runs to play with it is the perfect time to allow some of his other players the chance to bowl.
Teenage leg-spinner Marty Jeffrey is expected to get a lot of overs after the new ball pair of Skinner and Nick Cushan and the captain said Jeffrey will benefit bowling in a situation like this.
"Young Marty will be looking to take some wickets, he's been bowling really well and has just been unlucky not get a first grade wicket yet and 'Cush' (Cushan) has been bowling really well in the nets so hopefully me and him and can get a few wickets early on," he said, before speaking about the opportunity for Jeffrey.
"It lets him throw the ball up there and get some grip and turn and having the runs on the board will help him too.
"We can also get some overs from some of the other guys, give some of the part-timers a go."
Skinner said while the ball will be shared around, his side still need to hit consistent areas, something Souths struggled with last week.
The Hornets will no doubt be looking to avoid an outright loss with batsman like Adam Carr, Adam Wells and Justin Knudsen determined to spend long periods at the crease.
With another win seemingly for the taking, Newtown's outstanding start to the season looks set to continue and despite the attention now on them from other teams in the competition, Skinner said the Tigers won't be changing anything any time soon.
"We're not taking much notice of the hype around us, we know we can be beaten so we're just going to keep on playing our simple game and do what we've been doing," he said.
"When you get ahead of yourself is when you get in trouble so we'll just play to the plans that we set."
Today's match resumes at 1pm.
