Williams named his racer after the vet who delivered the dog and when Duncan McGinness recorded an impressive start to finish victory, Williams was quick to say the vet would be happy to hear about the win.

"It was a good win and a good name," he said.

"He was a caesarian birth and he was brought into the world by the vet here, Duncan McGinness, so I thought if he brought him in then I'd name him after him.

"He's only a young dog, he's only had eight starts and about two years of racing so he'll be alright."

Duncan McGinness ($3.10 fav.) jumped well from box four and was alongside the Daniel Hoskins-trained Pirate Keeping ($6.70) early but by the time they reached the back straight he was already leading by three lengths.

McGinness' speed faded as he rounded the bend for home but the lead was still big enough to get home one-and-three-quarter lengths ahead of Pirate Keeping while Exquisette Pixie finished well to come home third for trainer Peter Dutton.

"I knew he'd tire because all the dogs in my kennel have had niggling injuries and haven't even run a trial for the last four weeks so I knew they'd tire but he can run a lot faster time than that, he's won in 22.89," Williams said.

Earlier in the day the John Chapman-trained Lithgow Panther showed his class with a dominant win in the UNIBET (0-1) Wins Stakes (516m).

Lithgow Panther ($4.00), coming off a seventh at Richmond last month, won by seven-and-a-quarter lengths from Wyembah Road ($3.00 fav.) and No Boots ($14.70).

There was a huge boilover later in the day when Vanza Choker got up in the UNIBET Stakes (400m) for trainer Geoffrey Sheather.

Vanza Choker was paying a huge $49.00 but led from start to finish to win by a neck from a fast finishing Sudden Strike ($9.00) while Uniting Cargo ($2.00 fav.) was third for Wellington's Ron Steel.
