Group 11 officials are confident the sacking of Manly chief executive David Perry won't impact their push for an NRL premiership match to be brought to Dubbo in 2015.
Perry left his post on Monday, just a couple of days after the multimillionaire Penn family bought a controlling interest in the club. He was replaced yesterday by highly-rated former South Sydney and Chelsea FC administrator Joe Kelly.
Earlier this year Group 11 president Ross McDermott, secretary Bob Walsh and vice-president Gavin Board met with Perry at Brookvale Oval to discuss bring a match to Apex Oval, but in recent times those negotiations had stalled.
"We haven't heard from Manly or the NRL for a while now but we'd like to think we're still in the mix," McDermott said.
"All our talks had been pretty positive and we've remained in contact but David Perry seemed to be where things had stalled a bit.
"That's not bagging the bloke at all, because he had a tough job and maybe we weren't at the top of his list of priorities. For all we know things might be progressing behind the scenes.
"What has happened is unfortunate but it might open up another avenue for us to explore things with the new owners and whoever fills that position in the future."
It is believed the 2015 NRL draw will be released some time in early December, meaning if Dubbo is in the mix to host a fixture discussions would need to intensify very quickly.
Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson has personally made contact with NRL head of operations Todd Greenberg, and it was understood a proposal would be forthcoming not long after that discussion.
However there has been no further dialogue from the game's governing body either.
"The position we're taking is that even though things haven't really progressed and a few things have happened that are out of our control, the door has never been closed on us," McDermott said.
"Group 11 and Dubbo City Council have made our intentions clear to both Manly and the NRL that we're interested in bringing a match to Dubbo, the ball is in their court whether they want to make it happen."
