Strachan has returned from a spell in the UK to add some stability to the Cougars side and he is expected to feature heavily with both bat and ball against Souths at No. 2 Oval.
The Cougars showed promise against Colts last round but ultimately fell short again but with Strachan returning to complement the likes of skipper Ben O'Donnell, who made 80 against Colts, they will back themselves to improve further.
Souths meanwhile come into the match on a high after defeating Macquarie in their opening match of the season.
As has been the case for the past couple of years, the Hornets will look to inspirational skipper Tim Berry to lead the way, with the talented all-rounder coming off a five wicket haul against the Blues.
Berry will also be key with the bat, as will the likes of teenagers Asher Robins and Will Wolter.
The match at No. 2 Oval begins at 1pm.
