NEWTOWN co-captain Mat Skinner admits not many people would have expected his side to beat Rugby as comfortably as they did last round but with confidence high in the camp the Tigers are keen to repeat the result against RSL Colts.
Newtown defeated the defending premiers by an innings and 73 runs in the opening round of the Whitney Cup and Skinner has urged his team to keep up that impressive level of performance with both and ball this round, starting today at Lady Cutler 2.
"It would be very nice (to beat Colts), not many expected that last week but we knew we could beat Rugby if we bowled well and we did that and I think Colts will be similar to Rugby so there's no reason why we can't knock them off too," he said.
Skinner was a standout in the win, making a century in his side's total of 318, while he was assisted throughout the match by the likes of Nick Cushan, Dan Holland and his brother Steve.
Rolling Rugby's power-packed batting lineup for 115 and 130 was no mean feat and Skinner said he was pleased with the bowling attack the Tigers had formed this season.
"Everyone is going well, we've got a left arm quick and a few right arm seamers, we've got an off-spinner and a leg-spinner and a few part-timers so we've got some good variations," he said.
While confidence is high in the camp Skinner urged his side to be fully focused on Colts, who started their campaign with a strong win over CYMS.
"We've just got to play our own game and keep doing the same things. We can't get too ahead of ourselves," he said.
"They're top five are all capable of making runs, Tim Cox is the danger with the ball, they might be bit light on with bowlers so if we can get through his overs we should be able to put some runs on the board."
While Cox will lead the charge with the new ball, the Colts spinners will likely play a big role in the match with Nathan Jones particularly impressive last week, taking nine wickets to go with his half century.
Today's match starts at 1pm at Lady Cutler 2.
