Millar, the resident professional at Gold Creek Golf Club, will vie with established stars headed by major championship winners Charl Schwartzel and Jason Dufner in the $1.75 million European tour co-sanctioned event.

A win would guarantee Millar can play on the European Tour for the rest of this year, and the next two years.

He enters the event in good form, having recently won consecutive pro-am events at Shelly Beach and Woodville, and recorded a top-20 finish at last week's WA Open.

Millar has committed to playing all of the local tour's biggest events, including the Australian PGA, Australian Masters and Australian Open.

Two years ago Millar put aside his hopes of earning an overseas tour card to take on the teaching role at Gold Creek.

But should he do the unthinkable and win at Lake Karrinyup, those dreams will be revived.

"In my position now I'd obviously accept it with open arms," Millar said.

"I wouldn't play a full schedule over there [Europe], but I'd play more than enough.

"It think it [competing against the best but not being a full-time player] is getting harder, but the good thing the last two months is I've had a fair bit of time on the course as well.

"This tournament's one most of the guys look up to as one of the biggest events we get to play in, but with that comes a quality European field.

"It's not a 'rock up, whack your hand out and away you go' – you have to play some good golf."

He is wary of the Lake Karrinyup course's tricky winds and fast greens.

"It's a quite testing and demanding golf course," the 38-year-old said. "The winds get strong and the greens are very fast, you have to manage your ball very well.

"There's still a lot of prestige with the Aussie Open and the Masters, particularly the Masters, but this one is getting up there."
