The match saw two of Dubbo's best batsmen in recent times go head-to-head with Cougars veteran Jaspal Bansal making 139 on day one last week before Cox finished 115 not out on Saturday as Colts were all out for 224 in reply to CYMS' 240.

Despite battling continual back problems, Cox is expected to push for a first grade spot in the coming weeks and he showed his importance to his side with the next best score being 24 from number nine Stephen Orth.

The win was a significant one for CYMS who only recorded one win last season but already look a far more competitive side this time round.

Brian Carroll again led the way with the ball, steaming in for 18 overs and finishing with 4-41 while Brody Parkinson and Brandon Dodd finished with two apiece.

Defending their day one total, CYMS began well with Colts slipping to 2-34 early on but Cox entered the match and played a lone hand, working the ball around on his way to 50 before opening up as he approached triple figures.

Wickets fell regularly through the middle and the Cougars would have fancied their chances when the men in red were 7-127 but Cox and Orth's 47-run stand got them back in the match.

But Dodd bowled Orth and then knocked over Mitchell Ashford and Parkinson bowled number 11 Glen Wheeler for six to seal the win.

The South Dubbo Hornets' tail wagged on Saturday as they claimed a first innings win against Macquarie at Lady Cutler 3.

Resuming on day two at 5-46 in reply to the Blues' 101, Henry Railz (24) and Jeff Shanks (21) began well and further contributions from Michael McCarthy (29) and Joel Johnston (23) allowed Souths to pass the total and finish on 132.

Shane Dupille, Macquarie's standout with the ball in their title winning campaign last season, was again the best as he finished with a miserly 3-11 from 13 overs while Adam Thurlow and Brant Mann took two wickets each.

With 42 overs still left in the day Macquarie went out to bat again and showed no signs of the struggles like they had a week earlier as they finished the day at 4-189.

Adam Thurlow was promoted to number four and didn't disappoint, smashing 68 while Richard Hawker also made 60 at the top of the order.

Johnston, Harry Edmondson, Neil Motbey and Jayden Powell all took a wicket each.

Day two of the clash between Rugby and Newtown at Lady Cutler 4 could not have been any different to day one as 16 wickets fell during a commanding win for Rugby.

After making 8-222 on day one, Rugby sealed first innings points when they rolled Newtown for 106 but the Tigers then did some damage of their own with the ball as they reduced Rugby to 8-54 when stumps was called.

Chasing Rugby's big total, set up by Dale Watmore's 88, the only Newtown players to show any resistance were Tom Barber, who finished on 48 not out and Andrew Walden, who made 30 for the undermanned Tigers.

Tyler Woodrow, Al Horrocks and Lachlan Harper took two wickets each.

No player made it past 15 during Rugby's second innings as four wickets to Mike Jeffrey saw them struggle to stumps but it mattered little as Rugby started their season with a first innings win.
