THE strong combination of Sydney-based rider Anthony Cavallo and Mudgee trainer Bob Howe were at it again on Saturday, taking out the feature Dandy Cup (1300m) at Narromine.

Howe has made a habit of being able to reinvigorate tired horses and extend their careers and that has been the case with the eight-year-old, which joined his stables from Sydney earlier in the year.
Formerly trained by Kevin Moses, Foreign News had won five races around the provincial circuit and earned in excess of $120,000 in prize money before being purchased by a group of Howe's long-term clients and Saturday's win was his first since heading to the bush.
Despite being a placegetter behind Ten To Zero and subsequent Coonamble Cup winner Atomic Blaze three runs earlier, punters did fancy the chances of Foreign News after disappointing performances at Wellington and Mudgee.
But a brilliant ride from Cavallo proved the key as the Danehill Dancer x Breaking News gelding ran down Superbad in the shadows of the post.
Cavallo had Foreign News ($17.00) tracking the Cindy Monaghan-trained Superbad ($3.60 fav, Joe Saiki) for most of the trip before peeling off his back early in the straight.
Despite always looking likely to get past the favourite, Foreign News took his time but eventually wore his rival down in the closing stages before going on to win by a neck, with Tyson's Tiger ($10.00, Daniel Northey) a further nose away in third after getting a run along the fence.
While Cavallo's ride on Foreign News was among the best of the day, it was Daniel Northey that took the honours on the program with a winning double.
He piloted the Frank Osling-trained Canny Maree ($21.00) to an upset win over raging favourite In Ernest ($2.20 fav, Kody Nestor) in the Robert Handsaker Ford Class 2 Handicap (800m) early in the program before backing up in the final event of the day and winning aboard Lucky Ana ($16.00) for Scone trainer Rodney Northam.
Dubbo trainers also tasted success at the meeting, with Peter Nestor's Up There Electra ($4.00, Kody Nestor) winning the Barnsons and Delta Ag Maiden Plate (1100m) while Justin Stanley bagged his second winner inside a week when My Little Beauty ($8.00, Martin Haley) took out the Golden West Holden Benchmark 55 Handicap (1100m).
