The singer-songwriter has kept a low profile since the release of her previous album two years ago, although she's happy to admit "it's been a real labour of love" creating this album, which happened between Australia, New York, Los Angeles and a few more locations along the way.
"Life throws so much at you and I write about it all," she says. "Through the 18 months of writing and producing the album, I figured I had a lot to say and there were so many things I wanted to express, and I managed to pull it all together for this one album."
Having co-written and co-produced all the songs on Dance in the Rain, she feels a particularly strong connection to the album's creative process and its mix of pop, R&B, dance and reggae grooves.
"I feel like I'm at an age now where I'm not trying to please anybody; this is who I am and I'm not afraid to open up and show that to people any more," she says. "I made this album because this is what I want to say and this is how I feel."
Dance in the Rain is now available.
