After a break of three weeks since completing their school year, most students have been studying hard to prepare.
Yesterday morning every single student across the state sat down to the first English exam, which is standard regardless of which English level they studied. This morning students will be sitting the second English exam, which is split into standard and advanced papers.
Students said it was a relief to complete their first hurdle and for many, they found it was better than they were expecting.
Friends Danielle Lester and Nessa Burgess were pleased with their studies in the lead-up to the exam.
“It was less stressful than I was expecting it to be. I think I was a lot more prepared than I realised,” Danielle said.
Nessa was back in the exam hall yesterday afternoon, sitting her hospitality exam.
“It makes it tough to study when you have two close together but I fit an hour of study in with some lunch,” she said.
“I have these three and then a bit of a break so there will be plenty of study going on.”
Tye Naden wasn’t sure how he went in English and was hitting the books hard last night to prepare for today’s second exam. He is looking forward to biology and chemistry, which he is expecting to be his strongest exams.
It’s not just the students who have been working hard in recent weeks. Exam supervisor at Dubbo College, Gordon Dover, has spent a decade overseeing
“We have a total of 16 supervisors so there is a roster for them. We had 13 on for the English exam because it is the biggest one we have. Others subjects have smaller numbers and we require fewer teachers.”
This morning is the second English exam, with industrial technology this afternoon. Ancient history is first up tomorrow and physical education after lunch.
