The Merewether couple is one of five teams who have transformed a Melbourne office building into stylish apartments. They are expected to fetch record prices at Sunday night’s auction.
The 20-something couple were engaged before filming started.
Plans for them to marry on the show emerged after a ‘‘bit of a joke’’. The notoriously spontaneous couple jumped at the opportunity and even suggested host Scott Cam conduct the ceremony.
‘‘It’s not every day you get Channel 9 putting together your wedding and putting it out there for millions of people to view,’’ Smith said, adding there had been no worries or cold feet before the big day thanks to the pressures of the renovation.
‘‘We also had no idea where the wedding was, what time it was on, we had no idea about anything.’’
But the couple did admit to a few nerves about the auction.
‘‘We did always have the buyer in mind, it’s The Block so it’s unpredictable ... you just need to go in with a very open mind and be ready for anything,’’ Stokes said.
The couple had planned to marry in Port Stephens in December and will still celebrate their union that month – after they have walked the more than 1200 kilometres home from Melbourne in a bid to raise $120,000 for the Starlight Foundation.
