Sophie Monk has broken down on Sydney radio when describing how she had been stranded in Dubai by a mystery illness that had left her ankle so swollen it was bigger than her knee.The 2Day FM radio host had travelled to the United Arab Emirates for a number of fashion shoots when her ankle began to swell so much that she consulted doctors, who at first thought she was suffering from deep vein thrombosis. AN INVESTIGATION is under way into a fire that ripped through buildings and destroyed cars in Dubbo on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at the back of Sainsbury Automotive on the corner of Bourke and River streets just before 4pm.
Traffic diversions were put in place, as thick black smoke visible from kilometres away billowed from the site.
A series of loud bangs rang out as firefighters battled the blaze.
"Everyone's accounted for and fine, that's the main thing. The Sainsbury detailing shed is gone, there are probably ten cars burnt, two in the shed and others beside them. New cars, a couple of Hyundais, a Jeep, an Isuzu. We'll assess the damage and go from there."

NATIONAL: Melbourne University has entrenched its place as Australia's highest-ranking tertiary institution but failed to reclaim its position in the world's top 30. The university rose one place to 33 in the latest Times Higher EducationWorld University Rankings, despite reaching a high of 28 in 2012. Australian National University came in at 45 this year. NATIONAL SPORT: Wallabies back Kurtley Beale is once again under scrutiny for his off-field behaviour, with the Australian Rugby Union confirming on Wednesday night that he is under investigation for an incident while on tour. Read more.
NATIONAL POLITICS: Tony Abbott has expressed support for a push to ban the burqa from Parliament House on security grounds, prompting senior Liberal figures to distance themselves from the Prime Minister. Read more.

7.31: Making headlines around the region
ORANGE: Police worked under spotlights late into the night to investigate a body that was found in a creek in Ridley Park yesterday afternoon. A crime scene was set up after a man walking his dog alerted police when he saw what he thought was a pair of legs protruding from the creek around 4.30pm.The clearly shaken man was questioned by police who soon confirmed his worst fears and a command post was set up at a nearby house. BATHURST: The region’s farmers are starting to look skywards as paddocks dry out and dam levels fall. Below average rainfall has been recorded in Bathurst for the last three months, with last month the driest. NSW Farmers’ Bathurst branch president Ian Hendry said while it is not looking as dire as this time last year, the region’s farmers could do with extra rain. Read more here.
ORANGE: Freedom was short-lived for Orange man Bradley Steven Parker who found himself behind bars after he was released only five days prior. On Thursday, September 25, Parker was released from custody and sentenced to 200 hours community service by magistrate Terry Lucas in Orange Local Court for a break and enter earlier in the year. But by Tuesday evening he was in the cells at Orange police station after he was arrested during an alleged car and foot chase that afternoon. Read more here.
MILLTHORPE: is one of Orange’s favourite tourist destinations, and starting this Saturday, visitors will have another reason to make the drive. The Pym Street Markets will be held on the first Saturday of every month behind the Millthorpe General Store and are a welcome addition to the village’s economy. Millthorpe Village Committee treasurer Randall Edwards said although sales in the retail sector, like everywhere, were low, business confidence in the village is high.Read more here.
ORANGE:Over the past decade sauvignon blanc, in particular the New Zealand versions, have been riding a highly aromatic wave of popularity with wine consumers. Chardonnay, that deep yellow, oak-rich drop that once graced our tables, took a decent knock from these new varieties and dropped out of fashion. Chardonnay vines in Australia were ripped up and replaced with sauvignon blanc along with the latest fad grape, pinot gris. Read more here.

DUBBO: Small and seemingly harmless objects can damage aircraft and pose a safety risk if left unchecked on airport runways. That is the message Dubbo City Council's airport operations manager Lindsay Mason is helping to spread during the inaugural Airport Safety Week. A single bolt or sheet of plastic sucked into an engine could bring an aircraft down. Read more here.
WELLINGTON: It was the discovery of a box of Christening bonnets made by convict women that made artist Christina Henri want to delve into Australia's history and tell the story of Australia's female convicts. Read more here.
NARROMINE: The cost of day care in Narromine is set to change if the federal government cuts the Community Support Funding. The Macquarie Valley Family Day Care Service (MVFDC) found out earlier this year $120,000 will be cut from their funding following the 2014/2015 budget announcements. Narromine Shire Council has reported the government will terminate the funding to 80 per cent of the family day care services nationally from June 30, 2015. Read more here.
DUBBO: The Salvation Army is delighted the recent Dubbo Wills Day raised $2300 for the Rural Chaplain Ministry in regional areas surrounding Dubbo and Central NSW. Sincere thanks is given to local solicitors who gave up their time and participated in the day including Kevin Hockey & Associates, Regional Law Group, Dubbo Law, Warwick McCarthy & Co Solicitors and Booth Brown Lawyers.Because of the significant generosity of the solicitors, nearly 60 local people had their wills prepared or changed. DUBBO: Jimmy Forrest was presented with Community Champion at the Mental Health Matters Awards, for his outstanding contribution towards mental health and wellbeing. Mr Forrest was presented with his award on Tuesday at Parliament House by the NSW Mental Health Commissioner, John Feneley. The award recognises unsung heroes the commissioner or commission staff have met during community visits, who have made an outstanding contribution to mental health and well-being in their communities. PARKES ELECTORATE: Councils in the Parkes electorate will receive $14 million for local road construction and street repairs in the 2014-15 year thanks to the Roads to Recovery Program. The program will enable local councils to prioritise roads funding, so that they can invest in infrastructure based on local needs and to strengthen economic growth. Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton said 17 council in the electorate will receive their funding allocations in November. Read more here.
DUBBO: Researchers have spent the past two days interviewing local businesses to determine the skill gaps and workforce needs of the community. Dubbo City Council have initiated the research alongside the Orana Regional Workforce Planning and Development Strategy surveys conducted by Regional Development Australia (RDA)- Orana to assist with council's economic development strategies. Dubbo City Council City Development Project Officer Kate Wright said where the RDA Orana research was looking into the whole region, the council's interviews will help shape workforce plans for Dubbo as part of the Economic Development Action Plan.
