Ross Slaughter drives down Alpha Street most days and reckons it’s about time something was done to address the tracts of grass verge by the side of the road that have been turned into a quagmire.
During the past soccer season Mr Slaughter has felt sorry for the mums and dads who can’t find somewhere to leave their car for fear or becoming bogged.
In fact, he says it’s been common for cars to have to be pulled from the mud after being stuck in the slush.
“I’ve been stewing on this for a while now,” he said. “I would have thought council would have done something ... but nothing.
“All this money is being poured into Mount Panorama but not a cent for something like this that inconveniences so many people.
“Tent City’s about to go up at the Police Paddock, but the fans who will be staying there will be in for a big surprise because there’s a lot of parking spots that simply won’t be accessible.
“And you can bet some of them will be bogged. They won’t be happy and you couldn’t blame them.”
Mr Slaughter said the simple solution was to fill the bog holes with some granite as a short-term solution.
“I would challenge council to act before the V8 races. If they don’t, it’s bound to become an issue,” he said.
City engineer Doug Patterson said yesterday council’s policy is that if anyone has any issues in relation to maintenance on local roads in the city they should contact them.
“And certainly in regard to Mr Slaughter’s concerns about Alpha Street, we will look into that problem and carry out any maintenance which may be required.”
