Discount retailer ALDI has attracted a crowd of shoppers on its first day of trade at Dubbo.
People queued outside the new $4.25 million store before its doors opened at 8.30am yesterday.
A steady stream of shoppers arrived at the land rezoned for commercial use in 2011 and many were quick to make their purchases.
"The line-up went all the way around the building and there was a steady stream coming in for about 25 minutes so we're really excited, all our hard work's going to pay off,"

BLANEY: A plan to build the state’s only goat-specific abattoir just off the Newbridge Road has riled neighbouring residents, who have voiced concerns about possible noise, smell and traffic issues associated with the new development and the impact it will have on their own business.
ORANGE: Bede Mumbulla “king-hit” a man who waved a machete to stop a brawl in Glenroi and he will spend the next six months behind bars. The 21-year-old’s solicitor Rayna Pettit tried to argue for a lesser sentence in Orange Local Court on Thursday because he had finally found somewhere stable to live and “obviously” needed some support.
ORANGE: Road quality’s impact on tourism in Orange has attracted concern from a councillor, who believes visitors should be left with a better impression. Councillor Russell Turner has asked for council staff to investigate Leeds Parade, with numerous potholes affecting the road surface.
OBERON: An emergency light plane landing in Oberon on August 25 is set to become the subject of an upcoming 60 Minutes episode. The dramatic mid-air emergency occurred on a routine charter flight from Sydney’s Bankstown Airport to Cowra. Just before 3pm, the 23-year-old pilot, James Chandler, radioed in to say: “My passenger’s trying to take over ... woah, woah.”
BATHURST police are warning that drink spiking can be potentially fatal as they investigate an incident where a local teenager was found semi-conscious in a toilet at a local hotel. Lauren Sullivan, 18, had been out dancing with a friend when she became unsteady on her feet and went to the toilet. Thirty minutes later her friends realised she had not returned and went to look for her, finding her collapsed on the floor.
BATHURST: Confidence hasn’t waned for beef cattle genetics in the Central Tablelands with stud stock producers continuing to record impressive results.Leading the way was angus powerhouse Millah Murrah, Bathurst, whose sale earlier this month broke the Australian angus on-property bull sale average and also topped at $70,000. Millah Murrah principals Ross, Dimity and Jane Thompson sold all 95 bulls offered to average $9147, with no lots selling for below $5000.
KELSO: Bathurst detectives have charged a man on a string of firearm offences following an alleged melee at Perthville in the early hours of Tuesday. The 26-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident, at a home in Bonnor Street in Kelso. It is alleged the disturbance started with a brawl at a house in Perth Street at about 1.30am Tuesday.
OBERON: A bail hearing yesterday for a man accused of the manslaughter of his stepson heard horrifying allegations of ongoing abuse against the victim, who was just three years old when he died. The 45-year-old man, who was last week charged by police with man-slaughter and reckless wounding causing grievous bodily harm, sat with his head hung, wearing prison greens and handcuffs, during the proceedings before magistrate Michael Allen, who refused the bail application.
BATHURST: With October fast approaching Bathurst is gearing up for this year’s V8 races and local businesses are encouraged to get involved. Bathurst Regional Council is once again holding its Window Display Competition, with two new prizes and a People’s Choice category that can be voted on via the council’s Facebook page.
7.13: Making local news this morning:
DUBBO: Dubbo City Council has granted conditional approval to a 28-lot residential subdivision in the face of opposition from neighbours. Kintyre Estate residents raised concerns about access and other infrastructure at a meeting on Monday but the development proposed for the city's west gained unanimous support from councillors. Yesterday Peter Pritchard said he and his Kintyre neighbours were angry and disappointed at the decision, and in response Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said councillors had listened to the concerns but "there were no planning grounds to reject the development".
DUBBO: A man used a mobile phone to take photographs of a speedometer exceeding 200km/h while he raced along the Newell Highway in a stolen car. Police said Beau John Peralta placed lives in extreme danger when he pushed an Audi A5 coupe to the limit near Dubbo on Tuesday. The 23-year-old from Geelong was brought into Dubbo Local Court in handcuffs when he appeared before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold yesterday.
DUBBO: The man also allegedly dumped the car he was driving. The Audi A5 with Victorian number plates was spotted travelling 90km/h over the speed limit near Tomingley and the driver failed to stop for police.Officers converged on surrounding streets to try to stop the vehicle as it entered Dubbo but it turned in to Ascot Park Road then was dumped at a Newmarket Road property.
DUBBO: A summer attraction is set to make a splash ahead of its opening to the Dubbo public. The replacement twin water slides have come in spectacular new colours. One red and one yellow, they made a strong contrast against the blue sky as their installation at the Dubbo Aquatic Leisure Centre continued yesterday. Dubbo City Council recreation services manager James McKechnie said they made a change from the blue of the old slides, which after 32 years of use had to be replaced this year.
