The sale of "Bruce" the Limousin Steer was believed to be an Australian record, said Ben Toll St John's agricultural economics teacher.

The steer was bred by the Kirk family before St John's took over.

The school has seen a great deal of success with previous Kirk family steers.

Bruce was selected by 15 St John's students, fed for 120 days, prepared and taken to the Breakfast Creek Hotel Charity Auction.

The Charity supported was QHA Hotel Care's supporting Prostate Cancer Research, Mater Foundation and PA Research Foundation.

Mr Toll said he was very proud of the students and said the 600 kilogram steer and the sale to A-La-Carte Meats were exceptional.

"The kids have done a great job to break him in," he said.

"He was an exceptional steer."

The agricultural economics teacher added he was happy the steer was auctioned off at a charitable avenue.

"To put the money towards a charity has been significant," Mr Toll said.

"It's great for students to give back to the community and contribute to a great cause."
