DURING the 2014 Group 11 season, Dubbo CYMS fans became all too familiar with centre Jyie Chapman producing moments of magic.
The electric centre was at his best during Sunday's grand final and it was these kind of performances which led him to be named the Whitney's Jewellers Group 11 Player of the Year.
The presentation was made during the half-time break of the under-18s grand final and Chapman was shocked to be named the winner and have his name on the illustrious list alongside some of the biggest names in the game.
The Western Division representative is the first Dubbo CYMS player to win the award since 2002, following the likes of Colin Parkes (1975), Steve Merritt (1978), Ken Fisher (1986), Brett Patterson (1991), Justin Yeo (2000) and Bernard Wilson (2002).
"It's very special, it's a privilege and an honour," he said after being presented the award by Group 11 secretary Bob Walsh.
"I've been working hard all year with the boys and I didn't expect this so it's a big surprise."
Chapman has been a standout in defence and attack all year and his efforts were rewarded with Group 11 and Western selection during 2014.
He was the go-to man for CYMS all year, with his ability to break a tackle leading him to cross the line nine times in 2014.
The Fishies star said a lot of his success was down to the rest of the CYMS backline while he also praised the guidance of coach Tim Ryan.
"It's great they've been pushing me hard all year, ever since I came to CYMS the club has helped me, pushed me to my limits and brought out the best in me.
"I've got trust in everyone there in the backline and the halfback too, young 'Bonho' (Alex Bonham), he helps us get the job done.
"Timmy (Ryan) has just been a big part of our lives for all us here at CYMS, they gave us the chance and we've repaid them.
Despite finishing a stellar 2014 season with a host of representative duties and a premiership title after the Fishies 34-20 win over Parkes, Chapman admitted he wants to keep on improving and make a bigger impact at the representative level in the years to come.
"It's been good, I got to play Group this year and a bit of Western too so hopefully that can continue," he said.
"I'll be pushing even harder to make those teams next year."
