Ms Kehoe's mother and Ms Dawson's sister, Judy Flanagan, died of cancer last year and the family joined the relay in her memory.
"She would come down every year and talk to the people as they walked past," Ms Dawson said.
Ms Kehoe said her mother had said she was going to do this year's relay and although the family were uncertain if they would participate, it was the children who convinced everyone.
"The kids wanted to do it. They were close to mum," Ms Kehoe said.
She said she was very proud of the laps the children did of the field, especially her 15 month-old son who walked a full lap.
Ms Dawson said she lost both Judy and another sister to cancer and the team were hoping to raise "whatever they could" for the Cancer Council.
