The Savannah Cabins include 14 two bedroom, two bathroom self-contained units, as well as one specially designed for visitors with a disability.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo general manager Matt Fuller said the zoo is the largest and most visited tourist attraction in NSW and the first zoo to have permanent overnight accommodation.
"The Savannah Cabins is the final component of the Zoo's three-tiered approach to providing visitors with memorable overnight experiences at the Zoo," Mr Fuller said.
Mr Fuller said during September 1,200 visitor nights have been booked at the Savannah Cabins, equalling $75 000 in revenue.
He said the Cabins will generate double that amount for businesses in Dubbo
Mr Fuller said the revenue from the cabins will also assist with conservation work.
"It all goes straight back into the zoo and the work our team does on protecting animals across the globe," he said.
He said in addition, the Cabins connect more people with wildlife as more time on the site means more time spent engaging with the animals.
Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the Cabins will provide a stimulus to Dubbo's shops and the region.
This isn't a grant, this is an investment. made for the good of everyone in the state."
Mr Grant said the zoo is praised world-wide.
"Taronga as a whole and Taronga Western Plains Zoo are world leaders in conservation. There's no doubt their success is known around the globe."
The $4 million dollar Savannah Cabin Project included $250,000 worth of funding from the Australian Government under the Tourism Industry Regional Development Fund program and the NSW Government's Regional Visitor Economy Fund.
The project is expected to assist with doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.
As part of the Savannah Cabin Project, Taronga Western plains Zoo will hold a public open house Saturday October 25.
