The trails have been nominated in the Dobija World Events and Tourism Award Category.
Riversmart CEO Bill Phillips said the announcement was quite unexpected in such highly competitive awards.
"We're delighted. In fact, we're very excited. The trails involved a lot of hard work from a lot of people and it's a wonderful recognition of our achievements," Dr Phillips said.
The Macquarie River Trails incorporate over 150 sites and attractions within the region from Lake Burrendong through the Macquarie Marshes.
Dr Phillips said he's now waiting to find out if The Macquarie River Trails progress into the finals of the awards.
"If nothing else, it also just helps to get the word out about the initiative," he said.
Dr Phillips said making it through to the gala presentation would be an amazing opportunity to rub shoulders with other tourism promoters.
"It's a lot harder to get tourism initiatives like this off the ground when you've got less people than in the city," he said.
" There's a lot we can learn from each other."
The three finalists of the Dobija World Events and Tourism Award will be announced after the official judging day on Thursday September 18.
Winners of the awards will be announced at a Gala Presentation at the Wagga Wagga RSL Saturday November 1.
