It is another senseless crime which impacts on community members, causing unnecessary repairs, replacement and inconvenience and costing them hard-earned cash.
The police have to direct resources and money to combat the problem.
Twenty incidents of tyre slashing were reported in South Dubbo in August – a figure police described as unusually high.
One young motorist said he had been hit eight times in three months.
It had cost him $80 to $90 a time for new tyres – a financial burden for someone working and studying to better himself.
Tyre slashing can now join the long list of crimes which burden the Dubbo community.
There were reports earlier this year of youths deliberately damaging the body work on cars in South Dubbo.
The crimes are not victimless – someone pays a price. Vandals cost the Dubbo City Council tens of thousands of dollars each year fixing the damage they cause.
The mindless malcontents who carry out such acts obviously don’t care about the consequences for other people but, if caught, would no doubt plead all manner of excuses and factors contributing to their behaviour to try to escape punishment.
The community needs to help police by reporting slashing incidents.
Hopefully police will quickly identify who is responsible and throw the book at them. \
