BAFFLE is the only horse Dubbo trainer Stephen Edwards has in work, but he expects the mare to run well when she resumes from a break in the Tooheys New Class 1 Handicap (1000m) at Parkes today.

The four-year-old broke her maiden status last preparation at Dubbo, but after two subsequent unplaced runs Edwards elected to give her a couple of weeks in the paddock and he was confident he had found the right race for her.
"I had her nominated for the 1100m race at Dubbo here the other day, but I figured 1000m would be better for her first up and this race will just be that bit weaker than the TAB standard race," Edwards said.
"She has come back well from that break. It wasn't a long break, only two or three weeks but she's freshened up well and has been working pretty well.
"I've been working her with a couple of my brother's horses, and while she hasn't kept up fully with Wheely Wilson she's done well enough to suggest she will run well in this kind of race."
Edwards' other horse Criminal Mind is currently enjoying a spell, leaving the hobby trainer with just one runner to look after and he'll be happy if she can keep earning a bit of prize money along the way.
"She's got to pay her own way for a while now," Edwards said.
"Criminal Mind has been a good horse for me, and he would win or run second every now and then to keep paying for them but with him in the paddock she'll have to pick up the slack a bit."
Baffle has drawn ideally in barrier five for today's race, and being a mare with early speed, she should be able to sit somewhere need the speed.
Kacie Chater, who rides all of Edwards' track work, will be in the saddle.
"Kacie does all the work with my horses so I like to give her the rides on race day," Edwards said.
"I'm only a hobby trainer. Of course I like it when they win but it's not a business for me so my theory is she puts in the work during the week so she gets the ride.
"Kacie knows the horse well and from the gate I reckon she should be able to lead, or at the very least be just off the pace, and if that's the case she should be hard to beat."
Today's non-TAB meeting it Parkes will comprise of five races, with the first set down for 2pm and the last for 4.35pm.
