A DUBBO team will travel to Melbourne this weekend to battle it out for quizzing glory.
Team Cats and Dogs qualified for the national QuizzaMe! tournament final at Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex after finishing on top of the leaderboard at Dubbo RSL.
The qualifiers were held over six successive weeks, with Cats and Dogs edging out rival team Why The Face to earn their place in the decider.
QuizzaMe!, which is held at the Dubbo RSL on Saturday nights, differs from traditional trivia nights in that each team has a buzzer in order to answer multiple choice questions.
Cats and Dogs team captain Ross West, whose partner Angela makes up the other half of the team, said the couple had faced some stiff competition on their way to the final and expected that to continue in Melbourne.
"Anything can happen on the night, sometimes the questions really suit you and other times you might totally bomb out, especially if you get a bonus question wrong and the other teams get it right," he said.
"It's a really fun group of people who play at the Dubbo RSL on a Saturday night, so we just go to have a good time and if we do well then that's a bonus.
"We have a two-player team, which is smaller than a lot of the others, but that's sometimes a good thing because there's less chance of being talked out of submitting a correct answer."
Mr West said one of the best things about the QuizzaMe! format was that it eliminated cheating.
"Often you'll go to a traditional quiz or trivia night and in this day and age the first thing some people do is pull out their phone and start using Google to find answers," he said. "You can't do that in QuizzaMe!, the quicker you answer the more points you earn and by the time anyone tried to cheat you've moved on to the next question."
