The facility was officially opened by Damien Birgan, Australia's only FITSAC world champion clay target shooter.
This style of clay target shooting involves strategically placed clay target throwers (called traps) set to simulate live game birds/animals - teal, rabbits, and pheasant as they would fly or run in the wild.
Birgan was assisted in opening the club house by club president Steven Smith, and Member for Dubbo Troy Grant.
The 2014 Coaker/Everett Memorial was nothing short of a resounding success with competitors travelling from Sydney, regional NSW and interstate to compete in this prestigious event.
The event is supported by the Coaker and Everett families and is in its 13th year, and is getting stronger each year in competitor numbers.
Once the formalities for the day were completed shooting began under overcast skies.
A credit to the high regard of this event is the number of competitors who arrived even with predictions of heavy rain for the weekend with day one on Saturday drawing 65 shooters to take on the elements and a clay target range second to none.
Day two saw an overcast morning but, with no rain threatening, attracted several more competitors to raise the competitor numbers to more than 70 shooters.
The Coaker/Everett memorial shoot is shot over two days but it is structured to enable competitors to shoot only one day if they choose.
The Sunday finished with several locked scores that culminated in shoot offs to break the deadlocks with the highlight of the day a shoot off for high-gun between local member Peter Kay and Birgan.
Birgan came out as the winner, but to Kay's credit he was just edged out by just two targets to a world champion in this sport.
The second shoot off was for the famed Grouse Trophy between club stalwarts John Sidoti and Kay, with John finishing just in front.
A testament to these two club members was the large contingent of observers who watched this final shoot off.
Many thanks must go to all who made the weekend a success and a very special thankyou to the Coaker and Everett families for their continued support of this prestigious event.
Dubbo Field and Game Club's next event will be the Menzies Pumps and Irrigation, and Chris Bourke shoot this Sunday.
New shooters are welcome so come and try Australia's fastest-growing clay target sport in a safe and structured environment.
