The Dubbo Stampede is a unique running festival which inspires everybody, regardless of age and ability, to achieve greater health and wellbeing through physical activity.
It seamlessly combines a joyful, inclusive community “fun run” with an intense high-class competition attracting some of Australia’s finest athletes.
There are four classes to choose from: the 5.5km Dingo Dash; the 10km Cheetah Chase; the 21km Zebra Zoom; and the inaugural marathon length 42.2km Rhino Ramble.
All the races start and finish at the zoo. Runners competing in the Zebra Zoom and the Rhino Ramble will enjoy a route which takes them along the beautiful Macquarie River.
The Dubbo Stampede has been growing in popularity since the first event in 2012.
In 2013 it attracted over 2700 entries becoming the largest “single day” competitive event held in Dubbo. It is estimated the 2013 event brought roughly 4000 people to the zoo to participate and cheer on friends and family.
People attending the event last year were struck by the friendly atmosphere and impressed by the organisation.
The Dubbo Stampede may even be helping change how the Dubbo community perceives itself. Parents, who have traditionally stood at the side lines cheering on their children, now feel part of a larger fitness movement which encourages them to actively participate.
The success of the 2013 Dubbo Stampede enabled the organisers to donate $5,000 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Registrations close on Friday September 5. For more information or to enter online visit: www.dubbostampede.com.au.
The event also has a Facebook Page. The entry fee includes free zoo entry
