FOR some not drinking for a whole month would be a challenge, but for Dubbo's Mitch Malone the craving for a drink was far less than the greatness of his cause.

Mr Malone had participated in Dry July before, but this year's $350 donation had much more sentimental value.
He undertook the campaign in support of his mate Matthew Quintal of Gilgandra was diagnosed with a brain tumor two and a half years ago.
Mr Malone said being "dry" wasn't difficult at all and nothing compared to what Mr Quintal experienced.
"Taking a month off wasn't too hard," he said.
"Matt's one of those guys who loved a beer and he couldn't have one for about two years because of his treatment."
This is the fourth time Mr Malone has participated in the cause and he said his body thanked him for the detox, but it's much more than that.
"It's good to take a month off and give yourself a break," he said.
"Dry July proves something to yourself, it proves that you can do it.
"It's also a great cause that raises awareness for tragic illnesses.
"I always make sure all of my donations go to cancer research."
Mr Quintal has been in remission for seven months after two surgeries and 18 chemo sessions.
"He's doing really well and is able to have a drink," Mr Malone said.
