More than 203 delegates from around the state met to decide the fate of a volunteer of more than 40 years service after she posted negative comments on Facebook.
There were 101 members who voted against the expulsion and 100 voted in favour- there were two informal votes.
The negative Facebook comments were in regards to the sale of the CWA's Potts Point building in Sydney.
"The root cause to all this is people had no clear information regarding the 'yes' and 'no' arguments behind the decision to sell the building, and the two things are inextricably linked, no matter what others say," president of the Sydney City Branch, Debra Pinkerton said.
"The only winner in all this is the association because it shows the members have a right to vote and even though it was a very close, it shows the members have spoken."
More than 73 per cent of votes during the May meeting were in favour of selling the building, which is expected to be sold for as much as $3 million.
The sale is expected to fund a new head office with lower maintenance costs, but members are disappointed the accommodation will not be replaced.
