Council's Director Community Services, David Dwyer, said the decision followed antisocial behaviour at recent birthday parties held at Wongarbon Hall and resulted in damage to the facility, disturbance to neighbours and contravention of the rules of hall hire.
"No community halls in the Dubbo Local Government Area have been available to hire for birthday parties for over 10 years except the Wongarbon Community Hall," Mr Dwyer said.
"It is unfortunate that the actions of the minority have resulted in the termination of hire for all birthday parties regardless of age, however our top priority is ensuring we protect and maintain the facility for the community."
"The Wongarbon Hall will still be available to hire for a broad range of community activities and events including reunions, community meetings, trade shows, dance classes, recreational and craft activities and school functions," Mr Dwyer said.
The Wongarbon Hall Advisory Committee last week voted to increase the security bond payable for the hire of the facility from $260 to $1000 effective immediately.
"By increasing the security bond and ceasing the hire of the Wongarbon Hall for birthday parties we can ensure this facility is maintained to a high standard for the community," Mr Dwyer said.
The Wongarbon Hall Advisory Committee is the central link between Dubbo City Council and the Wongarbon community.
