The celebration, attended by Parkes MP Mark Coulton and Assistant Minister for Social Services Mitch Fifield, also marked the start of increased services, new delivery vehicles and the installation of new freezers, much of which was made possible through federal government funding.

Meals on Wheels Dubbo Service Manager Peter English said the upgrades would not only help Dubbo but the 30 per cent of NSW, geographically, the operation serviced.

The generosity of Midwest Foods and Garian Food Wholesalers had meant meals could be delivered to clients in the far west at no additional charge while the expertise of Brian Medley at Medley Refrigeration had enabled the facility to have a state-of-the-art freezer, Mr English said.

The organisation has been serving Dubbo since 1963, delivering between 60 and 90 hot meals daily to people who are sick, aged or have a disability.

It also provides more than 30,000 meals annually.

Among those receiving awards at the presentation were Kevin and Margaret Walsh, who had spent some 32 years as dedicated volunteers.

Mrs Walsh said it was rewarding to help such a worthwhile organisation.

"I love meeting people and having that little talk with them when we deliver meals," she said.

"It is not just about the food, it's about the company you provide."
