Candy Man, a singing and dancing-infused celebration of the life and music of Sammy Davis Jr will play at the Dubbo Regional Theatre on October 30 and November 1.
Wayne Scott Kermond, who will star as Sammy Davis Jr, has conceived, written, performed in, directed, produced and toured with several award-winning contemporary Australian musicals along with his wife Katie.
The show will feature a dance ensemble of five cabaret dancers, an eight-piece local big band, a cast of musical theatre performers from various Dubbo and regional dance schools and a youth choir set amongst Las Vegas nightclubs, concert halls, musicals, films and Vaudeville.
Mrs Kermond was impressed with about 34 junior and senior performers who auditioned for roles as choir members and Vegas dancers, according to Dubbo Regional Theatre manager Linda Christof.
"Gaining audition experience is invaluable," Ms Christof said.
"Katie was full of praise for the local performers and took the singers and dancers through their paces, giving them helpful tips for future auditions and playing a game with the younger ones to teach them different theatre terminology such as prompt, centre stage, down stage and opposite prompt."
The good news, Ms Christof said, was that it was not too late to be part of the show and some roles were still available by calling the theatre box office.
