Last month it was announced build preparation were underway for 2700 homes in the east of the city and NBN Co confirmed yesterday that an additional 4900 houses would be supplied under the new section.
However, residents will have to be patient. It is estimated that preparation work will take three months and NBN Co says construction work takes an estimated 12 months, giving a completion date in late 2015.
The news will be relief for many, who were expecting the work to be completed by now before it underwent delays during the change in government.
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said it was an important milestone for the area, with greater certainty for homes as businesses as they prepared for superfast broadband services.
Dubbo Mayor Mathew Dickerson also greeted the news with enthusiasm.
Last month NBN Co confirmed that construction in East Dubbo was the preferred fibre-to-the-premises method of connection and it was understood all of Dubbo would receive the same but NBN Co hadn't confirmed that by deadline yesterday.
"The rollout of the (National Broadband Network) NBN continues to gather momentum in Dubbo which means more families and businesses are a step closer to being able to benefit from fast and reliable broadband," NBN Co spokesperson Darren Rudd said.
