While most people have a basic idea of the work that is done by the RFDS, few are aware of the finer details of the organisation and the services they offer.
RFDS Dubbo Base Manager Daren Schiller said the event was well received.
"Days like these give the community an opportunity to engage with us and probably understand why we fundraise so much. They see our aircraft and the equipment we put on board and that stuff's not cheap," he said.
"We can show people where their money goes and by putting everything on display, we can give back to them."
With demonstrations, talks from staff, entertainment from the St John's College band and a barbecue, there was plenty for people to do.
"A lot of the people who come have some connection to us. One lady I was talking to had been flown by us. She was very thankful for the service," Mr Schiller said.
"The old TV shows glamorised the job a bit but it's not very glamorous. The space is confined, the aircraft is bouncing around, patients can be heavy and it's just bloody hard work.
"We do other programs like dental and allied health that people might not associate us with. We're not just doing emergency work but also providing primary health care."
