The tender was awarded for $$316,580 ex GST, with plans to have the new water slides constructed and operational in October, in time for the upcoming summer season.
"The twin slides at the DALC are a fantastic recreation resource throughout the summer season and are incredibly popular with at least 100,000 individual slide rides taking place each year," Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson said.
"Constructed in 1982, the twin slides have served to attract an additional number of customers to the DALC, outside of those utilising the traditional lap pool, for events such as children's birthday parties."
"Over 32 years of exposure to the elements and wear and tear from extensive use has meant that the slides have come to the end of their useful life and now need replacement under council's 20-Year Asset Maintenance Replacement Plan," Cr Dickerson said.
Council located the original manufacture of the slide and have discovered the fiberglass moulds for the individual sections are still in existence.
Cr Dickerson said this means only minor work will need to be undertaken by Dubbo Terrazzo and Concrete Industries on the steel infrastructure and the plunge pool, which has significantly reduced the cost in comparison to constructing an entirely new slide."
