Lloyd famously came from behind in the final lap to win gold in the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games men's 5000m event, and with the Commonwealth Games having started in Glasgow his involvement takes on extra significance.
The 2014 festival is the event's third year and the committee is excited to have Lloyd on board, according to Stampede president Tim Ferraro.
"It's timely with the Glasgow Commonwealth games starting soon to announce Andrew as our patron this year," Ferraro said.
"While we watch athletes compete on our televisions over the next few weeks, we also have the chance to lace up next to a Commonwealth Games champion in our own backyard.
"Stampede participants have the opportunity to meet someone who has represented Australia on the world stage and won gold.
"Andrew is well known in the running community and his successes in the Commonwealth Games and Australian running events speak for themselves."
Those wishing to compete in this year's event can register through the Dubbo Stampede website www.dubbostampede.com.au
Lloyd admits he is looking forward to travelling to Dubbo and being involved in the festival.
"Events like the Stampede are a great way to be a part of the community and support active lifestyles," he said.
"I encourage everyone to be a part of the Dubbo Stampede Running Festival and join the running community."
