Dubbo Westfund optical dispenser Amy Freshfield said the screenings were intended to identify problematic issues within students, which in turn would lead them to be recommended for further eye tests.
"This is the second time we've been here to test the students," Mrs Freshfield said.
"Initially we approached all the primary schools in Dubbo."
"The ones that were on board then distributed notes to parents, and those who were interested agreed to have their children tested."
Mrs Freshfield said the students ranged from kindergarten to year 6.
"The students that are being tested have not been recommended by teachers to have any recognised problems," she said. Optometrist Trevor Bemrose said the purpose of the screenings was to test the students' basic vision.
"We're looking at lot at long and short distance exercises."
Mr Bemrose said the screenings are designed to detect major problems students may be unaware of.
"The main thing we're looking for his lazy eye and turned eye problems," Mr Bemrose said.
"Those issues shouldn't be left untreated."
