An average of 1.41 million viewers (five city metro, all people) tuned in to watch as Toni McHugh told reporter Tara Brown she believed Baden-Clay, who was found guilty of the 2012 murder of his wife on July 15 and sentenced to life in jail with a minimum non-parole period of 15 years, had ‘‘killed for himself’’.
"I'll never understand how it could have happened, I don't believe that he murdered her for me," she said, ‘‘if it wasn't me, it would have been someone else ... He would have had affairs with other women.’’
The shocking interview beat a similar, earlier story on Seven’s Sunday Night program where details of a letter written by Allison Baden-Clay were revealed.
‘‘What you had with her was not real," Mrs Baden-Clay wrote of her husband’s affair with fellow real estate agent McHugh.
"It was a boy's fantasy with an adrenaline rush every time you were sneaking about.’’
The ratings win was comprehensive for 60 Minutes, with Nine News Sunday in second place on 1.35 million viewers, followed by Seven News (1.32 million), then The X Factor (1.27 million) and The Voice Kids (1.22 million).
Seven’s Sunday Night landed in 11th spot for the day, with 873,000 viewers.
