A determined not-for-profit group has created Dubbo Fireworks Inc. to deliver the event.
A venue has been chosen. The council has been consulted. Community organisations have been canvassed for help.
But, the money to stage the celebration has to be found.
The call has gone out for sponsors.
A fireworks show has been talked about over the years and with increasing fervour in the last holiday season.
Bathurst and Orange have had fireworks for some time.
Finally, there is a serious move to bring the fun to Dubbo.
The group plans a free family event starting with live entertainment at 5pm and ending with fireworks at 9pm.
There will be no alcohol.
It has a crowd target of 2000 to 4000 people.
Support from residents in 2014 will be crucial to the decision to make it an annual event.
Residents are likely to swing behind the plan. Who wouldn’t want free fun and fireworks for the family on a hot summer evening?
Run and supported properly, the fireworks could become a strong community event and draw in people from neighbouring towns.
It would be exciting, particularly for the young, and better than hanging out to watch the fireworks on television.
Hopefully, Dubbo will rally and put the fireworks firmly on the social calendar.
